On /r/ffxiv and the official forums, there seems to be a lack of data in regards to the intentions of people who want to buy homes. One side says “there’s not enough homes for the people who want them”, while another side says “Not everyone wants a home.” Putting aside my own thoughts on the matter, I’d like to know where everyone stands on this matter – no matter who’s argument it favors.

Please keep in mind that “I want a personal house, but I cannot afford the size I want” and “I want a personal house, but there are none available in the size I want” are both votes from people who want a house and don’t have one – only the reasons are different.

EDIT: Sorry for the late addition of “I am not satisfied with the housing system that is in place and refuse to participate.” You may change your answer to this if you would like – There should be no worries of duplicate votes from the same person.

In a nutshell: Individuals can purchase houses in the same way as an FC can, and at the same exact (bloated) price.

In a rare turn of events, both the communities of the official forums and Reddit’s /r/ffxov/ were united in their reaction:

That it is absolutely horse-bird poo. There are many, many problems with this setup.

Here’s what’s going on.
— Players will have to pick among very limited available plots and compete with the purchasing power of entire Free Companies as WELL as one another.
— Two wards were added which have approximately 30 plots, for a total of 180 plots of available land.
— The price for personal housing is exactly the same as what a Free Company would pay, negating Yoshi-P’s statement: “You’re not buying a house with only 850k gil. But they will not be as expensive as FC housing.”
— Yoshi-P released a statement tonight essentially saying that 2.4 will have double the land. If we assume that means 8 more wards:
8x30 = 240 plots per citystate 240 x 3 = 720 further plots available per server.
This is not nearly enough to accommodate even half of each server’s population.
–Unowned plots in Wards 1-6 have had their prices raised to match the new 7th and 8th ward prices. So much for waiting for depreciation.

Oh, but hey, you can ride your chocobo in residential wards now. Whooptie. Doo.

Don’t take our word for it though. You can follow the unfolding drama at these links:

I was pleasantly surprised to see some new, limited-time furnishing available from the Moonfire Faire Vendors that have appeared in every major city. They’re at the very bottom of the shop list, so don’t miss them. I bought some for the Chocobo Construction Company Headquarters. Look for pics on their individual pages, linked below.

Community Rep Pocchory has posted all the questions posed to the development team during the last Live letter.  Here’s a summary of the Housing and Chocobo Raising questions:

Pocchory

Housing

Q: Can you make it possible to place a planter in our private chambers so we can garden?

A: Komoto: It was possible to garden in FFXI with planter pots, and we would like to do this kind of thing for FFXIV: ARR as well. When we were initially planning out gardening, we were talking about having this type of feature in the future. However, gardening was designed based around the special aspect that it’s important what is growing next to each plant in your garden, so we’d like to monitor this for a bit and then work on implementing something. Please give us a bit more time.

Q: Can you make it possible to place an Armoire and the Unending Journey in our private chambers?

A: Komoto: There have been requests for this and we’ve put it in our implementation plans. Though it depends on priorities, we are aiming to implement this in patch 2.4.

Q: Can you tell us whether it will be possible to garden with personal housing?

A: Komoto: I’ve been talking to the programmer about implementing this feature to coincide with the implementation of personal housing, and we’re doing our best to make it in time. Though there is a possibility that the implementation timing changes, this is something that will be possible.

Q: Please implement furnishings where we can store items or racks we can decorate with weapons in our private chambers.

A: Komoto: As a player myself… Continue reading »

Community Rep Grekumah has commented on the issues some Free Companies are experiencing with wasting food on stabled chocobos that have reached the experience cap for their level.

Grekumah

We have received a response regarding a chocobo related question and I would like to share it with you.

"Originally Posted by Roll:Could we get an alert/message/icon that let's us know when a chocobo is capped on exp before we feed it and use up our item?"

While the implementation period has not yet been finalized, we plan on making it so you can confirm how much experience points your companion has from the chocobo stable menu.

In response to a further question, Grekumah clarified further that he meant that ALL chocobo exp would be confirmable, and not just your own chocobo’s. This will be a welcomed change as I personally have seen many a krakka root wasted on a chocobo that was already capped for the moment. Thank goodness it wasn’t a more valuable food – but that’s chocobos for you. OF COURSE they’re not going to tell you that they don’t need to be fed.

Community Rep Grekumah has commented on the issues some Free Companies are experiencing with keeping their stables clean.

Grekumah

Chocobo Stable Concierges,

I know that some players have been struggling to keep their stables fresh and clean for their fellow adventures. We touched on this briefly during the recent Letter from the Producer LIVE, but just to reiterate we are planning to make adjustments to the magicked stable broom in patch 2.35.

We’ll be announcing the details of this adjustment in the patch notes the day the patch goes live.

There was a lot of information regarding the stables that I’ve added to the Chocobo Stables page. Please note that it is subject to change when 2.35 drops. It is not known when Patch 2.35 will drop but it is speculated to be in the latter half of this month (August).

It takes an amazing crew to build an amazing home – and we’ve hired three new warkers at the Chocobo Construction Company! Please welcome Fluffykins the Destroyer, Stereoppes the two-eyed Ahriman, and Robo-Gobo, the automated gardener.

Fluffykins the Black Sheep Fluffykins the Destroyer‘s name is pronounced “Flur-bog-ael” and don’t you freakin’ forget it! Fluffykins, er… Flurbogael hates life. He was raised in a loving family of karakul – who don’t understand why he’s acting like a black sheep but try to accept him anyway. He says he longs to be made into lamb chops, but will run at the first sight of a weapon-wielding adventurer. He says no one understands him. He’s right.
Stereoppes Stereoppes is a two-eyed ahriman.. in fact, the only two eyed ahriman in all of Hydaelyn. Being a mutant is a lonely existence as he was cast out of Ahriman society only to be shunned by the suspicious peoples of Eorzea. Before joining the Chocobo Construction Company, Stereoppes traveled the lands as part of a circus troupe that visited the city-states during All-Saint’s Wake, a time when freaks and imps are tolerated and even welcomed as performers. Despite his tragic deformity, Stereoppes absolutely loves life, much to Fluffykin’s irritation.
Robo-Gobo Robotic Goobbue Mark IV (Robo-Gobo) was created by Wedge and Deputy President Jesse of the Garlond Ironworks. He is part of a project designed to find an automatic caretaker for residential gardens so adventurers can be free to do more important things like saving the world. Robo-Gobo takes his job very seriously, despite having the fickle, clockwork soul of a mammet.

Look for their comments all across the catalog, and if you want to read about the other warkers, please visit the Meet the Construction Warkers page.

Community Rep Grekumah has commented on the issues some Free Companies are experiencing with removing players that have private chambers.

Grekumah

Greetings,

I have a few pieces of information I would like to share with everyone regarding FC quality of life improvements.

We will be releasing the feature so that free company masters can remove players with private chambers in patch 2.35. We also expect that the feature that will allow masters to remove players who have stabled their chocobos will be ready at the same time. Separate from this, we will also be looking into making it so the FC master can remove the chocobo from the stables without removing the player from the FC.

The amount of food you can obtain from gardens can be increased by using certain soil. We will look into making it so you can obtain them through other content; however, we would like to maintain the way gardening functions as content, so we will not be making adjustments so you can get a large amount of this food. (I.e. sell them in shops, etc.)

Private Chambers 1

Hey gang!  Looks like there’ll be some new furnishings available in Patch 2.3 on Tuesday, July 8th.  Among them, it looks like there’ll be a lot of plant-themed indoor and outdoor furniture, a lot of Stone Vigil themed stuff, some striking dummies, and many, many new seeds for use with the Chocobo Stable (and I *think* some of the seeds become minions!)  For the full list of items coming out in Patch 2.3, head over to the Lodestone here: Patch 2.3 Preliminary New Items

Square-Enix has officially stated on Twitter that Patch 2.3 – Defenders of Eorzea is scheduled for release on July 8th, 2014!

The Warkers at the Chocobo Construction Company are excited for 2.3, and here’s why:

  •  Personal Chambers attached to Free Company housing, announced price at 300,000 gil.
  •  Chocobo Stables for Free Company housing
  •  (speculation that there will be more furnishings, but no proof aside from this picture of  the planned Ramuh Trophy)

Of course there’s more to patch 2.3. Check out our sources below for more information.

Square-Enix is reporting a problem regarding the Miniature Aetheryte crystals:

We have confirmed an issue occurring since the maintenance which took place on Jun. 9, 2014 wherein players will become unable to use housing functions if private aetherytes are newly placed within the property (garden).

We are working on the issue and plan to have it addressed within the week. Until then, we ask that players please refrain from the placing of any private aetherytes on their property.

Please note, this issue will not affect those who placed private aetherytes on their property prior to the Jun. 9, 2014 maintenance.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

If this affects you, please consider teleporting to your FC’s home city and using the large Aetheryte crystal there to get home.

Original Notice:  Confirmed Issue Regarding Housing Functions (Jun. 11)

Edit from Square-Enix:

*Edit: Jun. 13, 2014 3:23 a.m. (PDT)
The above issue was resolved as of the maintenance which occurred from Jun. 12, 2014 11:00 p.m to Jun. 13, 2014 1:25 a.m. (PDT).
We apologize for any inconvenience.
